Training Update

My initial Qualification checkride in the T-6 is complete and I've gotten up to 13 miles in my training runs so, with both those obstacles met, I'm officially registering for the Austin Marathon!

Everything is going well so far. There are lots of good running routes from our house and some days I'm able to run on base as well (flat but at least the miles are marked).

The Racer (About Me)

WHO - Major Jason M. Trew, US Air Force pilot (Over 700 Fighter Hours, Callsign "TOGA"); US Air Force Academy Class of 1999; Hometown: Covington LA; Currently TDY to Randolph AFB (San Antonio, TX) for T-6 Pilot Instructor Training... Married to my best friend (Jennifer) for over ten years and we have 2 great boys, Jack (5) and James (2)

WHAT - Raising money for the Special Operations Warriors Foundation by racing the 2010 Austin Marathon. Althought I've been doing triathlons for over a decade, I've never run a marathon. My goal is to raise at least $6585 - the average tuition of a year in a public college.

WHY - As an F-15C Eagle pilot I specialized in Air-to-Air combat. That focus allowed us to be the best Air Superiority pilots in the world. It also meant that we have been out of the fight in Iraq and Afghanistan. Although we've flown numerous Homeland Defense missions and I've personally deployed to the theater with the Army's 10th Mountain Division, I know that the warriors in Special Operations have borne more than their share of the burden. As I transition from the Combat Air Force to the Education and Training Combat, my ability to directly support our brothers and sisters in arms is decreasing even more.

HOW - I will be using the FIRST marathon preparation program which calls for only 3 days of running but 2 to 3 days of intense cross training, which will follow CrossFit. I'll provide periodic updates on this blog.
